“It was a matter of a second – is sad Niccolò Bonifazio, 11th on the finish line in Abu Dhabi Al Marina – we were at 300 meters from the finish and I was behind the today winner German Marcel Kittel.”
“Kittel had to slow down – Niccolò continues – and I decided to go left at the other side of the road. I made a few meters and I found myself locked by other riders. Too bad, today I had good legs. ”
“The bunch wanted to get to the sprint – commented sport director Paolo Slongo – and so it was. The team remained in the middle of the peloton for most of the stage and then work in the final for Niccolò. We are ready for tomorrow’s challenge“.
Tomorrow, in fact, will be the time for the “queen stage” of this Abu Dhabi Tour’s third edition. Stage number three will go up on top of the 1,240 meter of Jebel Hafeet, the emirate’s highest peak: 3 kilometres climb with a 11% maximum slope.
“The final winner will come out at the end of the stage – said the Italian director – we can make a good result with Vincenzo Nibali although the competitors are really strong.”
