January 29, 2017

The sixth stage was marked by a long breakaway of ten riders including our Manuele Boaro. “We just started after the start – said the Italian athlete – and we made more than 120 km in the wind”.

More than 20 km to go, three riders attacked again and managed to earn just enough to get to the final sprint. The victory went to Argentinian Maximiliano Richeze with our Navardauskas in eight place after the bunch sprint.

In the overall, the Dutchman Bauke Mollema maintained his leadership with Navardauskas and Nibali seventh and eighth respectively. Bahrain Merida team is still leading the team classification.

To report that due to the extreme heat – the temperature reached 43 degrees Celsius – the organisers took the decision to cut of 18 km from what was to be the longest stage. “It’s a correct decision – spiega sport director Paolo Slongo – it’s right to think about the athletes health”.
